This was my first serious map and the first in a series of nine. It shows a highly detailed blow-up of the kingdom of Lodria that also appears on the Elder Days™ World Map.
Above, you can see the section highlighted in the thumbnail image. All of the maps in this series are 8×11 inches at 600dpi. They are designed to be printed as line copy—not using a half-tone screen.
The maps of Lodria use my own hand-drawn elements mixed with elements adapted from the 16th century engravings of William Kip and William Hole that were published in William Camden’s Britannia. The challenge here was to blend the pen-drawn features seamlessly with the old engraved elements. I wanted to make the entire map look like an engraving and it took some trial & error to simulate this with pen and paper (especially the ocean edging).
