This sci-fi map was created in the autumn of 2003 soon after the Martian rovers Spirit and Opportunity left Earth. On this map, the diameter of Mars itself and the orbital paths are all to scale. Phobos, Deimos and the artificial satellites are all oversized for clarity. The red zones are relative to the local satellites and move with them. The blue zones are relative to the Mars – Sun system and move slowly with the seasons.
The map features a space elevator on Pavonis Mons and zones for aerobraking, gravitational assist for outbound through-traffic, elevator assist to Lagrange points and lunar mining traffic.
The images of Mars, Phobos and Deimos are all from NASA’s online image archive. I could not find a top-down, true-color picture of Mars that I was happy with so I made one from a laser altimeter relief map (shown at the bottom of this page).
This print comes on gloss or matte-finish Fujifilm Crystal Archive paper.
